Findings from VPD Group alumnus enable faster computer processing
Dr. Jeff Cain, formerly a PhD student in the VPD group, recently had his work published in the Journal of Applied Physics titled Controlled synthesis of 2D MX2 (M = Mo, W; X = S, Se) heterostructures and alloys.
Heterostructures and alloying of multiple 2D materials is particularly useful as it offers a methodology to achieve properties that surpass those of the individual constituents. In particular, these techniques allow for high performance transistors and increases in computing power.
This paper maps out the specific conditions that give rise to each of these useful heterostructures and/or alloys of 2D materials, thereby allowing scientists to deterministically construct various geometries for the desired application.
