Research Objectives and Approach
Nanoscience and nanotechnology deal with the manipulation of materials
at a nanoscale. Materials having at least one dimension in the range between
1 to 100 nm, show exotic properties, when compared with its bulk counterparts.
Fundamental properties of nanomaterials are strong function of size and
shape of the particles at given composition.
Surface modification of nanoparticles by various ligands is important aspect
of nanoscience and nanotechnology , since not only it stabilizes the nanoparticles
but also makes nanoparticles compatible for various applications.
Recently magnetic nanoparticles are gaining lot of importance because of its
Applications in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and therapeutics.
Main objectives of my research are to understand property relationship
with size, shape of nanoparticles and possible biomedical applications
with the help of magnetic nanoparticles. To accomplish this I will be
using various synthesis protocols to achieve different size and shapes
of the nanoparticles. Synthesis protocols will be designed in such away
that it will be easier to modify the surface. Final step of my research
will be use of these particles for various biological applications.
