Educational Background and Work Experience

I'm currently the Director of Operations for the SHyNE Resource, a joint Northwestern-U Chicago NSF-NNCI site. I work with external users and coordinate their activities within the characterization and fabrication facilities in SHyNE. Previously, I worked as the manager of the FIB and SEM instrumentation in the NUANCE Center at Northwestern University. I received my M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University in 2006 and my B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000. I’m currently working toward my PhD as a part-time student in the VPD group. Prior to coming to NU, I worked as a process engineer at Motorola (now FreeScale Semiconductor), where I worked on a number of different technologies, including MEMS, CMOS, and GaAs. I spent the majority of my time developing PVD processes for backside metalization in their GaAs lab/fab.

Research Projects

My research interests are centered on nanofabrication and nanoscale assembly processes. My current research focus is the development of nanofluidic devices for in-situ microscopy to allow the detailed visualization and study of self-assembly and other dynamic processes in fluids under nanoscale confinement. I also continue to work in the area of nanofabrication and materials characterization utilizing focused electron and ion beams.
